Current Status: Available for new freelance projects
The first question that potential clients usually start with, after “I want a website”, tends to be “Ok, now what?” With that in mind, I have chosen to outline how I work from the beginning of a project to the end. I’m sure this doesn’t vary too greatly from other freelance designers, but having it available for potential clients is a great asset in my opinion.
Note that this process applies generally to all projects, from a full website design to a branding exercise. Naturally, there could be small variations along the way, but they all start the same way: fill out a design brief.
Fill out the Design Brief.
The Design Brief is a short list of online questions that will help you better describe what your project is about. It will help me create a quote and will get you, the client, thinking about what you need to gather for us to move forward with the project.
Submit Design Brief
Once you have completed the Design Brief, you can submit it directly online. I will review the brief and come back with any questions that I may have to clarify the project.
Review Quote and Gather Materials
After I have reviewed the Design Brief, I will send you a project quote. It will encompass all of the necessary items as required by your brief and will lay out effort timelines for each. The quote will also contain my Standard Terms & Conditions, which outlines the basic terms of our contract.
Once you approve the quote and sign the Terms and Conditions, we move on to the fun stuff. At this point, if you haven’t already, you should gather together all of the items necessary for your project: logos, colour schemes, logins for FTP and control panels, etc. These materials can be submitted via email or by snail mail.
Mockups and Reviews
As outlined in the contract, I will deliver mockups of the project to you in the timelines agreed upon. You will be given ample chance to review, critique and modify the mockups based on your project’s needs.
Once final approval has been given on the mockups, markup and final building can begin.
Markup and Launch
The approved mockups are then converted to the final product. In the case of a website, the pages are hand-coded in Dreamweaver, using whatever technologies are necessary – e.g. HTML, CSS, PHP, jQuery.
Once built, the product is launched.
